Theater can often provide an antidote to some of the struggles of daily life; it can also hold up a mirror to truths we are trying to ignore. Today, we “Raise the Curtain” on someone whose work embodies both.
Kenny Moten is the associate artistic director at the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities.
He spent years performing on stages across the country before moving his talents behind the scenes as a sought-after director, a business owner running his own creative consulting firm, and the former artistic director at the Midtown Arts Center in Fort Collins, where he lives. In 2022, he earned a True West Award after creating, producing, and directing shows all around the state, including his first musical at the Arvada Center, a nearly sold-out “Beauty and the Beast.” In 2023, he was awarded Colorado Theater Person of the Year by longtime arts columnist John Moore of the Denver Gazette. Moten was named to his current position in Arvada last year.
