Arvada Press: Arvada teams up with Denver to make bid for 2030 Gay Games

A drag queen, a rainbow carpet and a new art installation greeted members of the selection committee for the 2030 Gay Games as they stepped off the G-Line into Olde Town Arvada and met excited community stakeholders while Chappell Roan’s “Pink Pony Club” blared on nearby speakers.

Thus began the city’s pitch to host events in the upcoming worldwide sporting event, which has narrowed its 2030 site finalists to Denver and Perth, Australia. The event is held every four years; the 2023 event was hosted in Hong Kong, and the 2026 edition will be held in Valencia, Spain.

While Denver would host the majority of the festivities, Arvada would play a crucial part, hosting swimming, diving and artistic swimming at the Arvada Aquatics Center; soccer at the Stenger Sports Complex; and kickball at the Harold D. Lutz Sports
